  11. What the @#$% is BabelDoc ?
  12.  
  13. BabelDoc is a program which allows you to translate documents or text strings
  14. from one language to another via AltaVista's translation services. It can be
  15. launched from the WorkBench or CLI. If no parameters are given from CLI,
  16. BabelDoc will behave the same as if launched from the WorkBench. Ther are 3
  17. input modes and they are as follows:-
  18.  
  19. text: Intended for one line texts since a carraige return will close the
  20.       string requestor. In CLI you may also enter text directly after the
  21.       `text' parameter if you wish.
  22. kcon: Allows you to enter or paste up to 3500 characters and will output
  23.       to a KingCON console and word wrap to your screen size. Refer to
  24.       KingCON documentation for its usage.
  25. file: Allows you convert a text file(s) of unlimited size. In CLI you may 
  26.       also specify a file name after the `file' parameter if you wish. 
  27.       The output file will be word wrapped to 76 characters in length and
  28.       will have the same name with a language extension added to it.

  32. WorkBench usage is fairly straight forward and CLI usage is as follows:-

  45.              it_en  =  Italian to English
  46.              pt_en  =  Portuguese to English
  47.              es_en  =  Spanish to English
  48.              de_fr  =  German to French
  49.              fr_de  =  French to German
  50.              ru_en  =  Russian to English
  51.              en_ja  =  English to Japanese
  52.              en_ko  =  English to Korean
  53.              en_zh  =  English to Chinese
  54.              ja_en  =  Japanese to English
  55.              ko_en  =  Korean to English
  56.              zh_en  =  Chinese to English

  62. NB: 1. This program requires a TCP/IP stack which supports TCP: device such
  63.        as miami or genisis.

  65.     2. Asian & Russian languages have not been looked at. For support of
  66.        these languages suggestions on how to interpret the text codes & what
  67.        readers to use would be welcome.
